Mochi tsuki (rice cake making ) Event at Kishi-ichi regional community center of Suita City

 On February 8th, 4 international students (Ya Yun Tan and Chia-Chi Lu from Taiwan, Daehan Lee from Korea, and Wei Ren from China) participated in mochi tsuki (rice cake making) event as volunteers together with 5 students who belong to OGU football club, held at Kishi-ichi regional community center of Suita city. The task assigned to our international students was to serve 4 different flavored mochi (kinako [ground soybean], satou-jouyu [sugar and soy sauce], daikon oroshi [grated daikon], and anko [sweet bean paste] to local people (mostly children), by communicating with the local people in Japanese. Each student was assigned a specific flavor and it was their responsibility to serve it when the local people choose their flavor.
 After 2 hours of serving mochi, the local people invited our students to eat zouni (special Japanese soup with mocha inside). Although it was rainy and a little cold, our students had a great time feeling warm hospitality of the local people and experiencing the Japanese cultural event.
