Regarding the 300 million yen emergency study support in response to the spread of COVID-19 infections

2020/05/13 UPDATE

Taking into account the influence of the spread of COVID-19 infections, our university will not be holding face-to-face classes for the entirety of the 1st term of the 1st semester, and in principle classes are being conducted using online methods. Furthermore in compliance with the government's state of emergency declaration, we are prohibiting access to campus and extracurricular activities such as study abroad, club activities and research based activities.
Beyond this we are working hard to provide the same high level of education and support that is expected of us by making improvements to our IT environment to provide lessons, career consultations, study abroad guidance and more, all while taking care to prevent infections. Moving forward, we believe that it is of utmost importance to maintain an environment suitable for learning.
Considering this, and the spread of COVID-19 infections, in order to help alleviate financial difficulties such as sudden changes in household income, as well as to assist in providing equipment to facilitate online learning, we are pleased to inform you that we are implementing emergency study support measures, as described below, totalling approximately 300 million yen.

  1. About Emergency Study Support
As a means to alleviate financial difficulties such as sudden changes in household income due to the spread of COVID-19 infections, and as an aid to provide and maintain equipment necessary for the communication required for online classes, we will provide support to students who are having difficulties continuing their studies despite the desire to learn.
    (1)
Financial support related to unemployment of parents, closure of business, sharp decrease in income, sudden changes in household budget.
Support payments of up to 300,000 yen per person
※Cannot be used in combination with the new higher education support system.
    (2)
Other study support to alleviate the financial struggles of the student themselves and to assist in the provision of equipment necessary for taking online classes.
Support payments of up to 30,000 yen per person.
※Cannot be used in combination with the financial support listed in (1) above or the new higher education support system.
[Application method, application requirements, payment period and payment method]
We aim to inform you in more detail in late May, so please refrain from making individual inquiries.
  2. Regarding the extension of the payment deadline for the 1st semester.
The deadline for payment for tuition fees for the 1st semester will be extended until Thursday July 16th.
Taking into account the current economic situation of those responsible for paying tuition fees, the deadline for payment of 1st semester tuition will be extended to Thursday July 16th to provide some time to make preparations.
  3. Improvements to online education
Our university started our classes online at the start of the school year on April 10th, and we are working on the following measures in order to expand our online environment. Furthermore, we are preparing support to allow the renting out of equipment necessary for taking online classes (laptop computers, Wi-Fi equipment, etc.)
Reinforcing the access environment of OGU-Caddie (LMS: Learning Management System)
Expanding the use of real time lectures (online lessons such Zoom, Google Meet, etc.)
Library database search by VPN connection.
Web application and delivery for textbooks and other books.
The lending of laptop computers (under consideration) ※Number of units available are limited.
