Malaysia: Malaysia Innovation Conference was held on Oct. 26-28, 2010. -- Report by the organizer
(Dec. 30, 2010)
On the Malaysian conference I received a message and report from Darin Moreira, Intel Malasia and a presenter at our Japan TRIZ Symposium 2007. His email message of Dec. 17, 2010, says:Attached in this email is the write up about the recently concluded Malaysian TRIZ Conference. I hope this will help and please do feature this in your Japan TRIZ Home Page as part of promoting the growth of TRIZ in the region. This is a big step for Malaysia as it embarks on TRIZ in a bigger way and we look forward to learn from the existing TRIZ communities around from the region (Japan, Korea, Taiwan, etc..) and hope to share our key learning’s as well in order to grow TRIZ for the betterment of all that are interested.
The report written by Dr. TS Yeoh, Intel Malaysia and President of Malaysia TRIZ Association, is:
The Malaysia TRIZ (myTRIZ) Conference was held on October 26-28, 2010 in Kuala Lumpur. This was jointly organized by Intel, Multimedia Development Corporation and Ministry of Higher Education. The theme of the conference was “Generating Growth through Systematic Innovation”.
A mixture of speakers from industries, academia and TRIZ practitioners included
Dr. Mark Barkan (President of International TRIZ Association),
Dr. TS Yeoh (President of Malaysia TRIZ Innovation Association and Intel Principal Engineer),
Mr. Praveen Vishakantaiah (President of Intel India),
Dr. Yong-Chie Heng (General Director, Industrial Technology Research Institute, Taiwan),
Dr. Daniel Sheu (Professor of National Tsing Hua University and President of Society of Systematic Innovation, Taiwan),
Dr. Se-Ho Cheong (Senior Managing Director, Samsung Mobile Display, Korea),
Mr. Young Ju Kang (TRIZ Manager, POSCO, Korea),
Mr. Sivalingam Muthupalaniappan (Director of Quality, MIMOS),
Prof Dr. Rosni Abdullah (Dean of Computer Science, University Science Malaysia),
Dr. Edwin Chung (Deputy Dean, School of Engineering, Taylor’s College) and
Dr. Sergei Ikovenko (Director and Chief Specialist, Innovation Leadership Programs MIT).The 2 day conference encompassed the areas of the importance of innovation to a nation's growth, followed by how TRIZ/Systematic Innovation can be applied to industries and academia; and finally the application and impact of TRIZ/Systematic Innovation usage. The 3rd day was a workshop on "Using TRIZ for competitive patent circumnavigation and other patent strategies" by Dr. Sergei Ikovenko.
The conference was attended by about 150 people representing multinational companies, small medium industries, universities, consultant firms and government agencies. Regional attendees from Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Korea, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Philippines, India and Taiwan were also invited. The conference managed to generate a heightened interest in TRIZ not just within Malaysia but also via the regional attendees. Some of the inputs received from the attendees included:
"The whole approach of TRIZ was something new to me and very interesting",
"Cooperation among academia, administration, and private sectors is the key to innovation",
"Learned how to cultivate systematic innovation culture and why it is important for Policy maker, Academia and Industry to work together as one team to drive forward".
Overall, it was a well organized conference with great speakers and an attentive audience.Details of the conference and myTRIZ Innovation Association can be found in the myTRIZ website : http://www.mytriz.com.my/
