About: Our organization: TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world.

Our Mission: Spread ideas: TED is a global community, welcoming people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world. We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and, ultimately, the world. On TED.com, we're building a clearinghouse of free knowledge from the world's most inspired thinkers — and a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other, both online and at TED and TEDx events around the world, all year long.  In fact, everything we do — from our Conferences to our TED Talks to the projects sparked by The Audacious Project, from the global TEDx and TED Translators communities to the TED-Ed lesson series — is driven by this goal: How can we best spread great ideas?

Home: WHO OWNS CPS?  Unlike proprietary methodologies, no one owns CPS. Osborn put CPS into the public domain so that people could use it. He did not feel as if he owned it; everyone owned it, and anyone should be able to use it.  More than 60 years later, CPS is known and used worldwide, by hundreds of companies and professional practitioners, and thousands of individuals. Expansion and research continues. CPS is the cornerstone of the Osborn-founded Creative Education Foundation (CEF), and CEF's annual conference, the Creative Problem Solving Institute; and CPS is at the core of the M.S. in Creativity from the International Center for Studies in Creativity at Buffalo State College.  Because no one owns CPS – it is a kind of open-source project – it has been researched and refined, extended and enhanced, for more than 60 years. The beneficiaries? Any of us who choose to use CPS today.

The short summary of CPS Process at the right column of the new top page is interesting. It describes as:
CPS Process Stages: Multiple Approcahes, One Process:
The Osborn-Parnes Creative Problem Solving process, once it reached maturity, looked like this: Objective Finding, Fact Finding, Data Finding, Problem Finding, Solution Finding, Acceptance Finding.
Simplex (Basadur, 1994) identifies eight steps, numbered here because one is required to do all the steps, in order, every time (a point of disagreement with many other CPS practitioners and models): 1. Problem finding, 2. Fact finding, 3. Problem definition, 4. Idea finding, 5. Evaluating and selecting, 6. Action planning, 7. Gaining acceptance, 8. Taking action.
A plain-language version (Miller, Vehar, & Firestein, 2001) expressed the stages like this: Identify the Goal, Wish or Challenge, Gather Data, Clarify the Problem, Generate Ideas, Select & Strengthen Solutions, Plan for Action.
CPS: the Thinking Skills Model (Puccio, Murdock, & Mance, 2005) is a multi-faceted rework of the model. It adds a meta-step (the first on the list) which includes management of the process, and incorporates data gathering. It identifies these process steps: Assessing the Situation, Exploring the Vision, Formulating Challenges, Exploring Ideas, Formulating Solutions, Exploring Acceptance, Formulating a Plan.
The Productive Thinking Model (Hurson, 2008), notably, adds setting criteria as an explicit step: What's going on?, What's success?, What's the question?, Generate answers, Forge the solution, Align resources.
CPS: Competencies Model (Reali, 2009; the model described on this site) is based most closely on CPS: Thinking Skills Model. It looks like this: Facilitate, Imagine the Future, Find the Questions, Generate Ideas, Craft Solutions, Explore Acceptance, Plan for Action. ]

Home:  The Basadur System has three key components: The Basadur Innovation Profile: The Basadur Innovation Profile empowers teams to work better. Every team member has his or her own process of thinking. Within that process, each person has a different preference or style within that process. Digging deeper and learning more about individual problem solving styles can go a long way towards building these critical characteristics.
The Simplexity Thinking Process: Solving complex, fuzzy problems and building a roadmap for the future is hard work. Viewing the fuzzy situation from a deliberately neutral position, the Simplexity Thinking process focuses a group through problem formulation to solution implementation using eight clear steps.
Innovation and Facilitation Tools : The Basadur System has an inclusive view of innovation and creativity that includes both analytical and imaginative thinking skills. The Simplexity Thinking Process recognizes that everyone is creative and that everyone contributes to the creative process in different ways. Multiple tools are in place to make all parts of the Simplexity Thinking Process accessible.

We are an independent nonprofit initiative with an objective that sounds like a paradox: "Raise global design education to an Ivy League standard, while at the same time reduce costs to as low as possible." In other words, we democratize learning by providing top-quality, online design courses at a fraction of the cost of traditional education.
The Scandinavian education system was our initial inspiration for this mission and, in 2002, the Interaction Design Foundation was established to create low-cost, high-quality education to change the way people learn the science, art and intricacies of design. Since then, we have built a sustainable collaboration and education platform, and have grown our global community to reach 454 Local Groups in 94 countries.

About: About KAI: The Adaption-Innovation Theory and its associated psychometric instrument (KAI) will provide you with insight into how people solve problems and interact whilst decision-making. Using this insight, you can improve the dynamics and cohesion of your teams. You can show that individuals within a team approach problems differently and that this very difference can be used to strengthen the team. This understanding should lead to the differences not only being tolerated, but welcomed. In addition, it will help you to reduce stress within the team, by reducing individuals' stress.

At the core of our work is the idea that all innovations share common patterns. Based on these patterns, we have designed a structured method called Innovating Inside the Box. Innovating Inside the Box applies a series of creative constraints that lead you to think and act differently. This is a learnable, repeatable practice. And it makes you the producer of systematic inventive thinking results that are both inventive and practical.

About: Engineering is Elementary® (EiE®) is a project of the National Center for Technological Literacy® (NCTL®) at the Museum of Science, Boston. We address America's pressing need for effective STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education through three platforms: Curriculum development and dissemination,    Professional development (PD) for teachers and teacher educators,   Educational research and evaluation.
EiE serves children and educators in grades K–8 with research-based, teacher-tested curriculum materials for schools and out-of-school time programs. We also help teachers build skills and confidence in teaching engineering and technology in our professional development workshops. And through conference papers and publications, we share the knowledge we've gained with the national community of educational researchers.

About the National Center for Technological Literacy: Recognizing the importance of technological literacy and the need for trained scientists and engineers, former Museum president and director Ioannis Miaoulis launched the NCTL in 2004 to enhance knowledge of science, technology, engineering and math for people of all ages. The Museum advocates for STEM education in schools and museums nationwide, creating educational products and resources for teachers, students, and the general public.

Home:  Odyssey of the Mind provides students with a place to learn today's creative problem-solving skills while having fun!   YES! Odyssey of the Mind is available virtually!     Creative Problem Solving :  Students create solutions entirely without the help of adults! They learn 'out of the box' strategy thinking, teach themselves new skills, learn decision making, discover bold new ways to use duct tape, and build self-esteem.    Science, Technology, Engineering, Math :  STEM education in a fun competitive and resourceful way. Whether it's designing a vehicle that uses unusual sources of energy or engineering a robotic pet for a not-so-haunted pop-up house. The long term problems challenge the 'out of the box' creativity.    Interactive, Cooperative Learning for K to Gr. 12 Teams learn how to be Problem Solvers! Together without the help of adults, they create, design, build and present their solutions for the long term problems. Spontaneous challenges further the fun in the competition tournaments. Judging teams will award for style and creativity, technical presentation and teamwork.
Long-erm Problems:   Teams get to pick from one of five Long Term problems to solve. Vehicles – design one or more vehicles to perform different tasks.   Technical – create working mechanical devices to become part of a play.    Classics – create a play including elements of Classical literature, art, music, and history.    Structure – design a balsa wood and glue structure to hold as much weight as possible.      Humour – create a play with humorous characters and situations.    A special sixth problem is created for students in Kindergarten to Grade 2.

Who is Odyssey of the Mind?     Internationally. Creative Competitions, Inc. (CCI) is a private company owned by the founder of Odyssey, Dr. Sam Micklus and his family. CCI also organizes the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals Competition.      In British Columbia:   Odyssey of the Mind is sponsored by the non-profit and federally registered organization, Creative Problem Solving Society (CPSS). CPSS purchases the yearly problems from Creative Competitions Inc. CCI, in turn, organizes the World Finals where teams from Canada are eligible to compete. CPSS is wholly volunteer organized and run. CPSS also hosts Camps and workshops.    At the school level:  teams are generally coached by parents and/or teachers who meet with the students on a weekly basis. This varies from school to school – some use Odyssey of the Mind as part of their curriculum and for others it is an extracurricular program. Schools or Groups purchase a membership which entitles them to enter into competition.
