Editor's Note and Introduction (Toru Nakagawa, Aug. 30, 2018; Oct. 8, 2018)

The present page is the 4th Collection of Papers published by Toshio Takahara.  It covers all the 11 papers/presentations published by the author from 2016 to 2018 in relation to TRIZ in a wider sense.  Most of the papers are written in Japanese and some in English.  All the documents are posted here in PDF with links, and some of them are posted in HTML pages as well.

As an exceptional case, this "TRIZ Home Page in Japan" has been publishing all the papers presented by Toshio Takahara since 2003, resulting 47 papers in total for these 15 years.  Mr. Takahara, after retiring from an industry, has been investigating for himself and has written these papers and presented them in various academic conferences in Japan.  6 years ago he had a pace-maker installed in his heart, but has been still active amazingly as before to investigate in his original scheme in a wide scope.

He is trying to think over everything radically, generally, and systematically for building his original system of theories.  Thus he defines/re-defines various concepts and terms, which make his theory not easy to understand for readers at first.  For getting introduced, you may read the introductions (or Editor's note by Nakagawa) to the Collections (1)(2)(3) of Takahara's Papers, or, if you can read Japanese, you may read Takahara's Working Paper 2018 closely from its start.

In the papers of Collection (1) (2003 - 2007) , the author first introduces Objects (i.e., components in a usual sense, and every 'thing' and 'fact' here) as a unit to grasp systems and issues, and considers its attributes (or properties), functions, and granularity (i.e., a range/scope in space, time, and attributes of an object), and he also derived a diagram method to express them.  Notifying the difference between the present situations and the desirable ones, the author regards that the Resolving the Differences can represent a wide range of human activities such as understanding the issues, resolving problems/contradictions, and achieving goals.

The 2nd Collection of Papers (2008 - 2012) records 13 papers presented for the 5 years, where various concepts are further extended in the theory.  Radical Enumerative Thinking (RET) is introduced as a method of investigation, which tries to logically numerate all possible items by clearly specifying the granularity of objects.  As the results, the author finds that the Resolution of Differences in a wider sense contains (a) simple cases usually called as modifications or changes and (b) generation and movements (or processes) of two items (two objects) having interaction with outside items; he calls the latter (b) as 'Compatibles' or Contradictions in an extended sense.  Thinking with RET and extended Contradiction model makes the dialectic logic more flexible and powerful, the author says.  Furthermore, he extends his scope from technology towards social systems and institutions.  Especially, he puts stress on these ways of thinking for living a life, and proposes 'TRIZ way of Living', to our surprise.

In the 3rd Collection of Papers (2013 - 2015) , his investigation has become much clearer and has extended the themes further.  For the purpose of explaining his theory closely from the real start, he contributed his research notes to TRIZ Home Page in Japan.  They are [28] THPJ2012 and also [34][35][36] THPJ2015 having three parts.  Especially in the latter one he says: “In comparison with what we know already, there are much more what we do not know yet.  So we should write with more weights what we do not know yet.”  Thus he calls the document as "(Uncompleted) Research Note".

He tries to make the concept of extended Contradictions clearer, and has introduced the new concept of "Contradiction of Unity", where the two items in the Contradiction are unified into one in a way to form a nested structure of Contradictions.  He also extends and systematizes his Dialectic Logic and has found that the resultant logic corresponds well with the Six-Box Scheme by Nakagawa.  He intends to understand the world in a unified way and to realize the basic principles on how to live as humans.  And for such a purpose he tries to build a method of logical thinking.  With such a big scope he has presented the papers at various academic conferences.  I now feel some difficulty in understanding and introducing his big theory briefly.

In the present 4th Collection of Papers (2016-2018) , his research has become deeper and broader.  His understanding at the latest stage is described in his "A Working Research Note on Philosophy (2018):  A Note on the Principle of Way of Life of Homo Sapiens Based on Contradiction Model and Radical Enumerable Thinking" .  Because of its big volume, it is published here in four parts, i.e., [44][45][46][47].

Concept of Contradictions (especially the Contradiction of Unity) and Radical Enumerable Thinking are his main methods for investigation.  Objectization (= analysis, seeing objectively, individualization, liberty, criticism, etc.) and Unification (= synthesis, taking subjectively, integration, love, modesty, etc.) should be used repeatedly, hierarchically, with nesting, etc. for the purpose of Resolution of Differences (i.e., problem solving, task achieving, etc.).  And it forms the basis of our ways of living, he says.

He also writes often about the importance of understanding the overview of human history (and its significance), such as the significance of the beginning of barter, and of agricultural revolution and industrial revolution as energy revolutions.  In its Part 4, he writes a preparatory discussion on post-capitalism.  The author describes his various insights clearly.

The whole documents of this 4th Collection, including the papers already published and the newly written Research Note (in 4 Parts), were received on Apr. 12 and in the revised form on Jun. 13.  After a delay of nearly 5 months, I am now posting them in this site both in Japanese and in English.  (Note (Oct. 10, 2018): On Aug. 30 only half of the Research Note 2018 were posted in HTML in Japanese.  Receiving revised versions of the left parts on Sept. 16, the Research Note 2018 are now posted fully in HTML in Japanese, and its Abstract in English is updated.) Takahara is going to present his papers at a couple of academic conferences soon in September.  We will be able to read his new papers in near future.

We heartily wish Mr. Toshio Takahara to be good in his health and active to investigate further.  It should be nice if you readers, including myself, would understand the contents and their significance of these pioneering works by Takahara and would adapt and develop them further in future.
